ALL TEAMS STEP IT UP IN CHAMPIONSHIP

April 7, 2012

The 3v3 indoor league final championship games were held last Saturday at Parisi Speed School in Morris Plains.  Although two teams went undefeated this season, every team gave it all they had in the championship.  First up was England vs. Germany.  England, with a 0-3 record, went into the finals strong and determined.  Germany may have beaten them in week one, but it was England, whose hunger to retaliate, kept their heads above water.  A back-and-forth nail-biter, ending with a winning goal by Aiden McEvoy in the last second, gave England the reward they needed (6-5).

The second game, which was close again, had powerhouse defenders battling for the title.  Italy vs Ukraine, two same-level teams kept the game very tight, ending in a 7-5 win for Ukraine.  The third and final game between the two undefeated teams, Poland and Spain, was full of sweat and passion.  The aggressive Poland team trailed the quick foot skills of Spain until the tail-end of the game.  It was then when Ted Rosenfeld turned up the heat and quickly shot the score up to a one-goal difference.  Spain, however, could not back down, and ended the game with a 7-5 victory against the heavy competitors.

Each child experienced game play at a short-sided level, the best for this age.  These games are meant to develop players by having them think quickly on their feet, make decisions, learn to play both offensively and defensively, and to acquire spatial understanding on the field.  It was evident that each week, these children progressed tremendously and are now ready for rec soccer.  Thanks to all of the families who participated- it was a blast!  We look forward to holding more leagues in the future.

DEFENSE ERUPTS WITH VIDIC TO THE RESCUE

Sunday, March 25th, 2012
Metuchen, NJ

After winning the U7 Boys 3v3 Soccer tournament in Morris Plains, the Kicker Crew made their way to Metuchen to conquer an even greater challenge- a 4V4 U8 tournament.  Despite the competition, and filling in for another team with missing players, the Kicker Crew held their own.

Due to Walter Zawacki's speed and strength, the Crew was able to lead the first game by seven goals.  Chase Reardon lended great support in midfield, with an assuring determination to win.  But it was Alex Brandon, a known midfielder with great technical skill, who surprised the team and audience by leading the back line with strong defense.  By the end of the tournament, he was headering shots out-of-goal and doing everything in his power to protect the goal- much like Nemanja Vidic.  In a highly defensive final game against a team that beat them earlier, the Crew retaliated, defeating them for the championship.

The Crew, on this day, consisted of many superstars- Stevan Patino, Chase Reardon, Cam Reardon, Ted Rosenfeld, Ryan Berman, Walter Zawacki, and Alex Brandon.  All worked hard, with pink in their cheeks, and smiles when victory was claimed.

CREW PLAYS IT EASY LIKE BARCELONA

Sunday, March 18th, 2012
Morris Plains, NJ

Short Sided Soccer's final Winter 3v3 tournament took place yesterday, with the returning Branchburg, Kicker Crew, and Morristown U7 Boys teams.  The four teams (two from Branchburg) battled it out to take the final championship title home... and to the website.  The Kicker Crew- the underdog throughout the Winter, picked up the pace, and proved that practice makes perfect by defeating the three other teams, and making it into the finals.

Playing up in almost every tournament for the past three months aided in their victory, and their polished foot skills wowed the audience.  Players, Nicholas Andrinopolous, Alex Brandon, Nicholas Connors, and Stevan Patino fed off each other's want to win.  Their unforgettable play at one of the kick-offs and their nice-and-easy, Barcelona-style passing helped them claim a deserving first place in the tournament, winning the final game, 5-3.

A note from Pre K Kickers:
If it weren't for teams from STA, NJSA, Kinnelon, Jefferson, Randolph, Roxbury, Mount Olive, Montville, Marlboro, Branchburg, Bridgewater, Morristown, Morris Plains, Holmdel, Brick, and Madison, the Kicker Crew would not have been able to attain such valuable playing experience.  Thanks to all of the towns mentioned (any any others missed) for getting together, and making our children better at soccer.  This Winter was a blast, and we anticipate an even better Summer season.

Yellow- Color of the Day

Sunday, March 11th, 2012
Morris Plains, NJ

The U9 Girls 3V3 soccer tournament started off with a nail-biting game between Montville and Roxbury Yellow, ending in a close 4-5.  Next, the Kicker Crew (U7 Boys) took on Roxbury Purple, defeating them 4-1, followed by another confident game against the Montville girls, winning 5-0.  Roxbury Yellow and Kicker Crew, both wearing yellow, earned their places in the Final game, which entertained the crowd with the high level of defense. Matthew O'Flynn played an awesome defensive game, allowing Stevan Patino and Alex Brandon to play the ball down to Ted Rosenfeld, the new-found striker, who scored more than half of the team's total goals.  Great variation was apparent in the game, allowing all the players to take turns in different positions, which seemed to have worked to their benefit.
Although the effort was there, the Crew fell two goals too short in the finals to the Roxbury Yellow, who were almost twice their size.  The Kicker Crew surely impressed the crowd by playing two levels up, and making it as far as they did.

KICKER CREW KICKS IT UP A NOTCH

Sunday, March 4, 2012
Morris Plains, NJ

Last weekend's Boys U8 six-team tournament brought many talented travel soccer teams together to battle for the U8 title.  The Randolph Raptors brought two teams, Marlboro brought the Mutiny back, Madison introduced the Mavericks, and NJSA and the Kicker Crew made a surprising comeback since their last tournament in February.

The Kicker Crew, made up of Aidan Paola, Alex Brandon, Stevan Patino, and Ted Rosenfeld, turned up the heat in a very competitive match among the six teams.  Winning their first two games (2-1, 6-2) and tying their third, they proudly made the playoffs, to battle the Randolph Raptors a second time.  The Raptors seeked redemption by winning the play-offs game 3-1 against the Kicker Crew.  The Raptors later battled NJSA in the finals, who ended up taking first place in the tournament.

Each and every team worked very hard, and their skill and heart were recognized by the other teams and parents, for sure.

GIRL POWER GOES A LONG WAY

Sunday, February 26, 2012
Parisi Speed School, Morris Plains, NJ

The four U8 Girls teams proved that big things come in small packages yesterday at the 3v3 soccer tournament in Morris Plains.
Bridgewater BSA Rage took on the local Lady Kickers (Pre K Kickers), Morris Plains SC, and Morristown's Pretty Girl Rock.  Although the three latter teams had younger and smaller players on them, they truly proved that the size of the person does NOT determine the size of her heart.
The Lady Kickers and Morris Plains SC fought through each and every game with everything they had, fighting the bigger girls off with defensive tactics.  Pretty Girl Rock made it to the finals against BSA, putting faith in their coach to guide them to victory.  It was BSA, though, who played mercilessly until the end, winning the championship title.

Favorite Quote of the Match:
Girl from BSA to Coach of Lady Kickers: "Your team looks good.  I like them."
Coach of Lady Kickers: "So you're gonna go easy on us?"
Girl from BSA: "Nope!"

Good girl!

CLOSE MATCHES FOR CLOSE FRIENDS

Monday, February 20th, 2012.  Cedar Knolls, NJ.

The Pre K Kickers President's Day Tournament turned out to be an exciting off-of-school activity for players and parents.  The children were split up into four teams of six for this 4V4 tournament- Teams Colombia, Croatia, England, and USA.  Although most children played with great passion, the tournament was non-competitive, and scores were not kept.  It was clear, however, who dominated the goal-scoring- Team Croatia, headed by Coach Kevin.  This superstar team was made up of the first ever Pre K Kickers- Connor Stokoe, Carter Kielbania, Jake Miller, and our other Veterans- Joe Armento, Alex Brandon, and Kyle Miluzzo.

Thanks to all of the other players and coaches who participated in this fun and fast-paced tournament!

CLOSE COMPETITION FOR THE KICKER CREW

Sunday, January 22, 2012, Randolph, NJ
The Kicker Crew had a great experience at last weekend's Boys U7 3V3 Tournament.  The competition was, for the most part, pretty even, which gave Pre K Kickers a better chance to score more goals.  In the end, Stevan Patino, Jake Bell, Alex Brandon, and Matthew O'Flynn made their coach very proud with 2 ties and 1 win.  Although this was a "non-competitive" tournament, the hard work and passion was evident.
It was another great opportunity for the Kicker Crew to learn from other talented teams- SDFC Santos, Montville, Florham Park Celtics, and the Chatham Kickers.
Let's get ready for the next big tournament in February!

PRE K KICKERS PLAY UP WITH PRIDE

January 15, 2012, Randolph, NJ
The Kicker Crew came together once again this past weekend to take third place in the U9 Girls 3V3 Tournament.  The majority of the team played up two levels this week, against some very talented girl's rec and travel teams.  Coach Ken directed the Kickers along a very structured and logical method of play, resulting in a well-battled tournament for the 6 and 7 year-olds.  Their team work and individual skill showed great improvement since last week, leaving them in the middle of the pack.  Not bad for the little guys (and girl).

The Kicker Crew prepares for next weekend's tournament against U7 Boys.

KICKER CREW COMPETES with CONFIDENCE

Competition was high and the talent was great.
Pre K Kickers' Kicker Crew participated in the 3V3 Boys U8 soccer tournament hosted by Short Sided Soccer this past weekend.  They played [slightly] up a level with confidence and determination.  The five stars who played for the team, Stevan Patino, Alexander Brandon, Matthew O'Flynn, Amir Ayaz, and Ricardo Zegarra, played to the best of their ability, given that this is not the team they usually play for.  They all participate in rec leagues or receive special training from Pre K Kickers staff.  Although the Montville Gladiators took home the Gold, the Kicker Crew were pleased with their performance and enjoyed the experience.
Needless to say, this will be the first of many 3V3 tournaments for the Kicker Crew...
